The Twenty-ninth Dynasty barely lasted two decades, but managed to repel Persian attempts to reconquer Egypt.
The dynasty was founded following the overthrow of Amyrtaeus, the sole Pharaoh of the 28th Dynasty, by Neferites I in 398 BC, and subsequently terminated upon the removal of Neferites II in 380 BC. Following the demise of Neferites I, two contending factions vied for control of the throne. One faction supported his son Muthis, while the other provided support to a usurper named Psammuthis. Despite his initial success, he only managed to reign for a year.
The chronological order
It is important to note that the chronological order of the pharaohs is an evolving subject and should therefore be treated with a certain degree of caution. As new research is conducted, the order may be subject to change, which is a fundamental principle that applies to all Egyptian dynasties.
